With a 1st class degree in Business Studies from Newcastle Polytechnic (now Northumbria University), and after a spell travelling and lecturing, I began training at 24 at a large regional firm. I qualified in 1987, and became the senior tax manager by 1992, having also qualified as Chartered Tax advisor with the Institute of Taxation in 1990.

In 1993, I chose to set up my own business in Penrith with only one client. This was my father’s family butchers shop business. With my tax knowledge and personal approach, the business grew, and we now act for over 450 clients.

I am also the finance director of my family’s catering food business. And, with my two brothers, I’ve helped it grow over 20 years. Going from a shop to a multi-million-pound business on two sites supplying top restaurants, hotels, and prominent events.

With my wife, Kate and our four children, I enjoy skiing, cycling, and fell walking. Also, I enjoy planting trees and creating wildlife habitats and ponds. Plus, I try to visit Italy when I can to pick olives in Umbria and to work on my Italian. I’ve been learning it for more than 14 years. Recently, I built a pizza oven to bring a little bit of Umbria to Cumbria. “Alcuni dicono che le mie pizze sono i migliori nel mondo!”
